She Loves Tech East Africa to take place in Kenya, offering trips to China

For the first time, a preliminary round of She Loves Tech is set to take place in Kenya. The winning startup will get the chance to travel to China for the global finals in September.

The leading startup competition focusses on women and technology with the objective of showcasing the intersection of the latest trends in technology, entrepreneurship, innovation and the opportunities it creates for women.

It culminates in an annual global startup competition and international conference series, which bring innovators and change-makers from all over the world to Beijing, China. The goal is to provide is to provide a platform to promote technology for women and women in technology.

This year’s edition of the global competition will be held in 14 locations across Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa and the UAE, with the East African edition set to take place in Kenya.

The East Africa competition is co-organised by China Africa Tech Initiative and is currently open for registrations. It will be held on July 14 at Nairobi Garage.

The competition is open to startups seeking funding. At the minimum, the startup is required to have a viable product. Any business person using technology to positively impact women can apply.

But, there’s another condition:

At least one female entrepreneur must be part of the founding team.

The exciting prizes

The winning startup will travel to Beijing, China, to compete in the global final happening at the International Conference on September 15, 2018. The finalists will have 5 minutes to pitch on stage and 3 minutes for Q&A.

They will also attend a boot camp where they will meet China’s leading startups. All regional winners will then undertake a tech trip to Singapore for three days.

It gets better:

Winners will receive also benefit from investments. Investors will be actively looking to invest in the top startups coming out of the global competition. Teja Ventures, a venture capital fund and She Loves Tech’s official venture partner is a prime example.

That’s not all:

She Loves Tech’s global winner will receive a custom “Startup Booster Pack”. This pack comes with exclusive mentorships from top investors and industry experts, consulting services, participating in the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology’s (SWITCH), fast-track entry to partner programmes and media exposure.

She Loves Tech is accepting startups from all industries, with a particular focus on startups in agri-tech, artificial intelligence and big data, B2B solutions, blockchain, consumer tech, clean energy, fintech, ed-tech, IoT, and e-health.

Once you apply, the She Loves Tech team and a panel of industry experts will review submitted entries and
shortlist candidates who will be invited to pitch at the preliminary rounds of the competition.
