IamtheCODE, Alibaba partner to empower women and girls

IamtheCODE has announced a partner with Alibaba to reach 1 Million women and girls by 2030.

The announcement was made at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 by
Mariéme Jamme, founder of iamtheCODE. Specifically, Jamme announced a partnership with Alibaba Cloud, the cloud-computing arm of the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group.

The partnership between the Chinese e-commerce giant and the
The African-led global movement to advance STEAMED (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, arts, and design) education will bring added benefits to iamCode’s curriculum of technologies that empower marginalized young women in the world.

Part of the agreement is to add the Alibaba Cloud logo on the digital wheel of iamtheCODE curriculum and the award of certificates to young women who pass the 12-week course of iamtheCODE Digital clubs.

That’s not all:

Alibaba Cloud will provide tailored courses on a range of topics that include cloud computing, data analysis, machine learning, and security.

Presently, iamtheCODE is present in 64 countries including China and to date, 13,000 girls have had access to the iamtheCODE blended curriculum.

Jamme expressed excitement over this partnership adding that the two partners’ ‘blended curriculum will become even more accessible as we add Alibaba Cloud to it.’

She added that: ‘ working with Alibaba Cloud will make a great difference in the lives of millions of young women globally.’

The global movement supports young marginalized women with their career path aimed at solid digital skills and other practical STEAMD subjects. It achieves this by teaching them to code, inviting them to decode the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It will also track what the young women and girls are learning through data and provide good nutrition education.

The Alibaba ‘Tech for Change Initiative’ calls for impactful ideas such as iamtheCODE to tackle global social and humanitarian challenges in areas such as education, economic development, and the environment through technologies.
