3 TED talks to inspire women to join STEM

Efforts to get more women to pursue technology in schools and even take up tech jobs is yet to satisfactorily pay off. Men still dominate this field.

In an earlier post, we had talked about how success stories of other women can inspire young girls to pursue tech courses and take up jobs. To take this a notch higher, we have decided to share TED talks of influential female speakers.

1.Teach girls bravery, not perfection by Reshma Saujan

In the candid and eye-opening 12-minute video, Saujan lays emphasize on the need to tech girls how to be brave rather than to be perfect. She compares the socialization that boys and girls are exposed to: She states that girls are taught to be perfect while boys are taught to be brave. She further notes that this has led to a bravery deficit seeing that girls are underrepresented. Click the title link to watch the full video.

2. Inspiring the next generation of female engineers by Debbie Sterlin

Debbie, an engineer, tell a story of her inspiring journey to this field. She points out that women give up easily since they doubt their abilities. She insists that its about hard work rather than being born a genius. Click the title link to watch the full video.

3. Encouraging Math-Hating Girls and Women to Become Tech Leaders by Emily Avant

Avant, a technology lawyer, confesses that she hated STEM at some point in her life. She then realized that these subjects can help transform the world for the better.
